Domino's Pizza finance chief dies in holiday accident

BATH, ENGLAND - FEBRUARY 19: A branch of Domino's pizza takeaway is pictured on February 19, 2018 in Bath, England. The number of takeaway restaurants has increased significantly in the last few years and this has raised concerns that this can lead to over-consumption in cheap, unhealthy high-fat nutrient-poor food and drink leading to higher body weight and greater risk of obesity. The chief financial officer of Domino’s Pizza (DOM.L) has died in an accident while on holiday, the company said Friday.

Domino’s Pizza Group said in a statement the company was “deeply saddened” to announce the death of David Bauernfeind. The company said Bauernfeind died in “a tragic accident” on Boxing Day while on holiday with his family. Reuters reported that Bauernfeind, 51, died in a snorkelling accident in Mauritius.

“We are all deeply shocked and saddened by this tragic news,” Domino’s Pizza chief executive David Wild said in a statement.

“On behalf of our Board, our colleagues and our franchisees, we send our heartfelt sympathies to David's wife Nicolette and daughter Ornella as well as his wider family and friends.

Bauernfeind joined London-listed Domino’s Pizza Group as chief financial officer in October 2018. He had previously been in charge of the finances at Connect Group, a newspaper distribution business.

Bauernfeind was also a non-executive board member at specialist optical manufacturer Gooch & Housego.

Gary Bullard, chairman of Gooch & Housego, said in a statement: "We are very saddened by the loss of David who has played an integral role at Gooch & Housego; his expertise and contribution to the Company will be missed.

“On a personal front, David was hugely liked by us all and we will miss him sorely. Our thoughts go to his family and loved ones."
