Dolph Ziggler Says He Wants To Fight Conor McGregor At WrestleMania

WWE Superstar Dolph Ziggler is no stranger to running his mouth, and if things go his way, he might realize too late that he's bitten off more than he can chew.

TMZ cameras caught up with Ziggler a few days ago in Los Angeles, and the cameraman wasted no time addressing rumors that Ziggler has aspirations to lock up with one of the biggest MMA fighters in the world.

Dolph Ziggler Lays Down a WrestleMania Challenge To Conor McGregor

Ziggler was quick to defend WWE, referencing that McGregor has previously called out the organization.

"He's called us out a couple of times, so I appreciate that, and I can go a little bit – so I would still do it," said the former World Heavyweight Champion.

Interestingly enough, Ziggler has no interest in a straightforward matchup inside the squared circle. Instead, he suggested a hybrid match, the likes the WWE Universe has never seen!

"Make it a best-of-three. Octagon, boxing match, wrestling," Ziggler proposed. "Then set it all up for WrestleMania. I mean, that's just where the money is."

WrestleMania is, in fact, where the money is. WWE's corporate website states WrestleMania 39 "generated a gate of more than $21.6 million, breaking the previous record by 27 percent, with 161,892 in attendance at SoFi Stadium over the two nights. In addition, WrestleMania 39 broke all-time sponsorship and merchandise records."

So, if this match between Ziggler and McGregor comes to fruition next year at WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia, it would help break records set by WrestleMania Goes Hollywood. With lifetime earnings estimated at over $600 million, McGregor has proven himself a money-making machine. Perhaps Dolph Ziggler is the perfect man to break the metaphorical bank.

Before he walked away from the prying eyes of the TMZ cameras, Ziggler made clear where he believes he stands in the WWE pecking order.

"Not everybody can go and back it up," he said. "But some of us can."

Conor McGregor Is In the Sights of Many WWE Superstars

Dolph Ziggler is just the latest WWE Superstar to poke the bear known as Conor McGregor.

A few weeks ago on the WrestleMania media circuit, Paul Heyman had strong words for McGregor and admitted he doesn't think fans should hold their breath waiting for a Roman Reigns/Connor McGregor match in WWE.

"I don't see him picking a fight with Roman Reigns," Heyman said. "Then again, little people do what little minds tell them to do, and that's OK. I like the little guy, he's funny to me. Like a clown. He's here for my amusement."

Those were some harsh words from The Wiseman, but it may set the stage for more eventual battles between athletes from WWE and UFC. McGregor made an MMA career out of being loud, brash and cocky. We're sure Ziggler isn't the only Superstar wanting the opportunity to knock the Irishman down a peg or two... or ten!

Dolph Ziggler Is Searching For Momentum Lately

Despite maintaining permanent status near the top of the WWE roster, Ziggler has been spinning his wheels lately, last appearing in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal on March 31 and not competing at WrestleMania.

For somebody like Ziggler, who has held nearly every championship in WWE during his 15-year run, it will undoubtedly be interesting to see where his career leads next. Will the former World Heavyweight Champion set his sights on the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship or will he soon find himself in another unforgettable rivalry that captivates the WWE Universe? Only time will tell.

Ziggler seems content to lay down his challenge to UFC's Conor McGregor and bide his time. After all, with all the news flying around lately concerning both companies, we could see WWE Superstars match up with UFC fighters sooner than we think.

Dolph vs. Conor could be just the tip of the iceberg.
