Written by Parton herself, with help from Erica S. Perl and illustrations by MacKenzie Haley, the book follows Parton’s French bulldog, Billy the Kid, who decides to head to Nashville to pursue his dream of becoming a country star. Along the way, he runs into some stiff competition in the form of some four-legged bullies who he must out-sing and out-perform at the “Battle of the Bow-Wows.”

Taking cues from Parton’s iconic discography (and with an appearance from the singer herself), Billy must turn to his favorite songs — including “Jowlene” and “I Will Pawlways Love You,” natch — to “regain self-confidence and be the star he always knew he could be.”

Publisher Penguin Workshop says the picture book is all about “standing up to people (and dogs) who put you down and finding the drive to achieve your dreams.”

This isn’t the first time Parton has put her pooch front and center — the animal lover unveiled her “Doggy Parton” line of pet toys and accessories last year. She’s also written a number of other books — for both young and old fans alike — in the past.
