Dolly Parton's Sister Stella Parton Defends Her Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader Outfit: 'Cute as Hell'

Stella's message comes after Whoopi Goldberg also defended the country singer for her outfit choice on 'The View'

Stella Parton has her sister Dolly Parton’s back.

The singer and songwriter, 47, addressed the online criticism her sister received after wearing a replica of the Dallas Cowboys' cheerleader uniform while performing at The Salvation Army's Red Kettle Kickoff Halftime Show during the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game against the Washington Commanders.

The ensemble — which featured a white vest with blue stars, a chest-baring blue crop top, white short, and a bedazzled piece of mesh that covered Dolly's midriff with crystal stars — as made headlines, some praising the 77-year-old singer for the outfit and others questioning whether she should have donned the outfit at her age.

In response to the criticism, Stella wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), “I personally thought my big sister Dolly was cute as hell in her Dallas Cowboys cheerleading costume at the half time show on Thanksgiving.”

“To those of you being so critical of a 77 year old kicking up her heels, I say f--- yourself. Shame on you not her,” she added.

She wasn’t the only one that has come to the defense of Dolly. On Monday, The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg, 68, also responded to people criticizing the country superstar's attire.

"Apparently, my turkey wasn't the only thing online that people were hating," she began on the show's broadcast, referencing the negative comments she received for stuffing her Thanksgiving dinner without gloves on. "Dolly Parton stole the show on Thanksgiving at the Cowboys/Commanders game dressed as a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, but some critics told her to act her age."

"Bite me," Goldberg said.

Goldberg's co-host Sunny Hostin, 55, noted, "If I looked like that in one of them Cowboy things, I might have everything out."

She also said while pointing at a picture from Parton's performance,, "I don't know if that's a belly ring or what, but I want what she has."

Parton kicked off the halftime show with her beloved song "Jolene," later transitioning to another classic, "9 to 5." She also performed her cover of Queen's "We Are the Champions."

The musician, who released her 49th solo album, Rockstar which became her highest charting album on the Billboard 200 charts. shared in a press statement that it was "an honor" to partner with The Salvation Army and perform.

"Those Red Kettles have long been a symbol of hope for our friends and neighbors who are facing hard times,” she said at the time. “My goal is to encourage everyone who can to donate and support their neighbors in need. Every small act of generosity helps, and together, we can all love our neighbors this holiday season and beyond.”
