Doja Cat Takes Down ‘Scarlet’ Album Announcement Amid Similarities Made With German Metal Band’s
After spending much of the past few months warring with her fans, Doja Cat may finally be ready to share a peace offering: Her new album, Scarlet, which arrives Sept. 22.
The pop star confirmed the release date for her highly-anticipated new record on Instagram. She didn’t share any specific details, but did drop the album’s compelling cover art — a nasty looking, scarlet-colored spider staring down a drop of blood. However, the art appears to share similarities to another cover by German metal band Chaver.

On Wednesday, PopCrave pointed out that both covers were designed by the Portland artist Dusty Ray. Chaver credited the artist on Instagram a month before when previewing their upcoming album, Of Gloom, which also features a spider, but with their logo above the image. Both albums are set to release on September 22.
Doja Cat, Ray, and Chaver did not immediately respond to Rolling Stone’s request for comment.
Scarlet will mark Doja Cat’s fourth album and follow her 2021 smash, Planet Her. While an official track list has yet to be revealed, Doja Cat has been ostensibly trickling out singles over the past few months, including “Attention” and “Paint the Town Red.” Prior to announcing Scarlet she also appeared to tease another new track, “Demons,” sharing what appears to be the cover art on Instagram.
Doja Cat already has a massive tour scheduled in support of Scarlet, with the trek set to start Oct. 31 at the Chase Center in San Francisco and wrap Dec. 13 at the United Center in Chicago. Doja Cat will receive support from Doechii during the first half of the tour, while Ice Spice will join the mix for the last half of the trek.
