Dogfish sets free shows, Ocean City's Seacrets will party for big Chief-Ravens game

While the winter weather has finally caught up with us, coastal Sussex County nightspots will heat up this weekend with a number of events — while others look toward spring and summer with various concert announcements.

Safari Soiree a sellout in Dewey, Bottle & Cork sets summer shows

In Dewey Beach, one of that town’s biggest annual offseason shindigs will take place Saturday, Jan. 27, and tickets have sold out. The semi-formal Safari Soiree Winter Gala will be held in the Lighthouse Cove Event Center. Live music will be provided by the Blue Cat Blues Band (8 to 9:30 p.m.) and Royals (10 p.m. to midnight).

Elsewhere in Dewey, the seasonal Bottle & Cork nightclub is closed for the winter but continues to place tickets on sale for summer concerts. All 1,200 tickets sold out in just a few minutes for a Thursday, June 20, appearance by country star Jake Owen. (Cork owner Alex Pires said a second show may be added.)

Owen is no stranger to Delmarva, having played the Freeman Arts Pavilion in Selbyville in both 2021 and 2022.

Speaking of the Freeman Arts Pavilion, its summer 2024 series of outdoor concerts has yet to be announced. However, tickets are on sale for the nonprofit’s annual fundraising event which will take place at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 19. It will be held at the Lighthouse Cove Event Center in Dewey, with music by Love Seed Mama Jump ($99).

Dogfish Head sets trio of free concerts with national acts

In downtown Rehoboth Beach, the Dogfish Head brewpub announced late last week that it would be hosting a trio of free concerts by national acts.

Things were scheduled to kick off with a performance by gangsta rap progenitor Schooly D at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24. (That show was postponed from Nov. 17, when it was to have taken place during Dogfish’s yearly Analog-A-Go-Go festival.)

On Friday, Jan. 26, Dogfish will welcome a pair of North Carolina indie-rock acts. The trio Sluice will play at 9:30 p.m., following an opening set by Libby Rodenbough at 9 p.m. Chicago-based rockers Brigitte Calls Me Baby will kick out the jams next month during a freebie at 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17.

Also in Rehoboth, tickets have gone on sale for a fall event that always draws thousands of music fans. The 35th annual Rehoboth Beach Autumn Jazz Festival will take place Thursday through Sunday, Oct.17-20. Tickets are available now for 16 of the concerts, many held downtown at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center.

The festival’s 2024 closing party will take place at the Rusty Rudder in Dewey Beach at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, and the ticket packages include a dinner buffet ($89, $129).

In Ocean View, the Dickens Parlour Theatre has a pair of magic shows set for this coming weekend. Magician Will Fern will take the stage at 7 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday, Jan. 26-27 ($38 for adults, $30 for children).

This is in conjunction with the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce’s seventh annual Fire & Ice Festival, which will feature family-friendly winter activities in areas that also include Millville and Frankford.

Looking ahead to next month at the Dickens Parlour Theatre, tickets are selling briskly for Committed to Comedy, a Valentine-themed variety show set for 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17. It will be hosted by local spouses and standup comedians Ashley and Tyler Dark ($25).

Yes, Seacrets will be open for the Super Bowl

In Ocean City, Seacrets is temporary closed for its annual winter vacation. However, it will reopen at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 28, to air the much-anticipated championship football game between the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs on its big-screen TV.

Seacrets will then reopen for good at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1 (with live acoustic music by Opposite Directions beginning at 5 p.m. that day).
