Dog Rescued After Falling 20 Ft Onto Ice in Michigan

A white husky was saved by firefighters after falling around 20 feet down onto ice inside an old filtration pond in Muskegon, Michigan, on March 7, officials said.

Footage from Alicia Rios, an animal care specialist at the local Pound Buddies dog shelter, shows the trapped dog barking at the bottom of the concrete-walled pond before Lieutenant John Kriger of the Muskegon Heights Fire Department climbs down a ladder into the pond and uses a treat to coax the nervous dog over to him. After some encouragement, the dog comes close enough for the firefighter to grab her and safely carry her out.

According to local media, Pound Buddies received multiple calls about the distressed animal.

In a Facebook post, the shelter praised the fire department, saying the crew “arrived and within minutes, made a plan, secured their equipment, and rescued the dog from the dire situation.”

“Once again, words don’t seem adequate for expressing the gratitude we have for these amazing firefighters and the Muskegon Heights Fire Department!” Pound Buddies said.
