Dog Found Hog-Tied, Stuck in Drain Finds Forever Home After Arizona Humane Society Rescue

Bunny had to have one of her legs amputated after she was rescued

• Emergency workers from the Arizona Humane Society were notified of an adult dog stuck in an irrigation drain in Phoenix

• They worked for three hours to free the dog, now named Bunny

• Bunny was rushed to a trauma hospital and treated for emaciation, lethargy and injuries

A dog that was found hog-tied and stuck in a drain in Arizona the day after Christmas has found a forever home!

According to a press release from the Arizona Humane Society (AHS), their Emergency Animal Medical Technicians (EAMTs) were notified of an adult dog stuck in an irrigation drain in Phoenix on Dec. 26.

Arriving on the scene, emergency workers saw that the female canine was stuck about 30 feet into the drain and immobile.

EAMTs worked for three hours to free the dog, now named Bunny. Her rescue required three ambulances worth of equipment. Upon closer examination, workers saw that she had been "badly entangled in old ropes and collars, leading her to hog-tie herself to her back legs while struggling to free herself from the drain," according to the AHS statement about her rescue.

Bunny was rushed to a trauma hospital and given fluids, antibiotics and regular feeding to treat her emaciation, lethargy and injuries.

The dog had an infected leg that her medical team watched closely, but after a week of monitoring, they decided it was best for Bunny if they amputated it.

"Bunny is now happy, healthy and thriving on three legs and recently found her forever home!" the AHS statement about her rescue concluded.

While Bunny had to have surgery to remove a limb, across the pond in the United Kingdom, another unique dog has had surgery to remove her extra limbs.

In September 2023, a six-legged Cocker Spaniel puppy named Ariel was found abandoned in the parking lot of a home improvement store. She's since had surgery to remove her "extra legs."

According to her medical team, she was born with "multiple birth defects" that included multiple limbs and two vulvas.

"The procedure went very well, and Ariel took it all in her stride," the hospital shared. "Here she is pictured post-op with surgeons Aaron Lutchman and Ed Friend," the Langford Vets Small Animal Referral Hospital shared in a Facebook post on Friday.
