After the shocking shooting of S.W.A.T. officer Dominique Luca (Kenny Johnson) on the “Escape” episode of S.W.A.T., which aired before the hiatus, it was touch and go whether he would survive. After all, he took three bullets to the chest and shoulder while single-handedly trying to prevent a robbery. It looked impossible for him to survive, especially since in the promo for Friday night’s upcoming S.W.A.T. episode, it looks like there’s a funeral.

But we’re happy to report that Luca is alive and kicking and we have the exclusive clip to prove it!

In the "Last Call" episode, 20-Squad launches a citywide manhunt for the crew responsible for the robbery and shooting of one of its own—and Luca, who is recovering and working on his PT to get cleared for duty once again, feels ineffectual.

Watch the exclusive clip above in which Luca admits he’s not OK when asked by Victor Tan (David Lim).

“I feel useless,” he says. “I’m on the sidelines here while you guys are out there hunting these guys down and doing my dirty work.”

To which Tan replies, “This is 20-Squad’s job. They hurt you, they hurt all of us. You’re not going to be on the sidelines for long. But first things first, you’ve got to heal up. Be patient with yourself.”

Luca’s situation in Friday night’s episode as he recovers from being shot is similar to the time when he injured his hip at the end of Season 3 and then he struggled to pass his fitness test, which required a three-mile run in a short amount of time. He tells Parade why that was one of his favorite episodes.

“I really liked the episode with Kelly (played by Johnson’s real-life daughter Angelica) when she gives me the courage to come back to S.W.A.T. after he’s injured and he’s afraid if he fails his three-mile run that he’s done forever,” he tells Parade. “He gets scared, and he doesn’t want to do the run. Kelly gives him the courage to go out there and not be afraid. Because he’s teaching her that, so why not follow your own advice in real life and don’t be scared and have the courage to face things straight on?”

S.W.A.T. airs Friday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS and streaming next day on Paramount+.
