Who Does Cressida End Up with in the 'Bridgerton' Books?

Spoilers ahead for Bridgerton season three, part one.

In Bridgerton season three, Penelope and Cressida are initially competing for the attentions of Lord Debling. Yet, after Debling (Sam Phillips) declines to propose to Penelope (Nicola Coughlan), sensing her affections for Colin (Luke Newton), does he end up with Cressida (Jessica Madsen)? Who does Cressida end up with in the books?

Julia Quinn's Bridgerton novels are really laser-focused on the Bridgerton siblings, and don't offer many details on side characters like Cressida, who only appears in two books. Her storyline is greatly expanded in the series.

In book four, Romancing Mister Bridgerton, Cressida is referred to as "Cressida Twombley" and "Lady Twombley," implying she was married. At one point, Penelope tells Lady Danbury, "She's always behaved quite badly toward me... It's not so bad now, but back when we were both out—when she was still Cressida Cowper—she never could resist the chance to torment me." It's revealed that her husband, Lord Twombley, passed away, leaving her a widow by the time Penelope and Colin get married. She later appears in Quinn's Bevelstoke series, still under the name Lady Twombley.

Meanwhile, Lord Debling is not a character who appears in the books, so there's a chance he and Cressida could end up together, especially since both are single at the end of season three, part one and not exactly looking for a love match. We'll just have to wait and see when part two drops next month.
