Dearest gentle reader, after much anticipation, the steamy historical romance series "Bridgerton" returns for season 3 this week.

The show following the fictional, aristocratic Bridgerton family debuted in December 2020, carving a niche as a Regency-era romance with racially diverse depictions of nobility. Based on Julia Quinn's book series of the same name, "Bridgerton" garnered critical acclaim, delighting and scandalizing audiences and critics alike.

It was another two years before viewers got season 2, which premiered in March 2022. Now, another two years later, "Bridgerton" finally returns for a two-part release of season 3. In it, viewers will follow Penelope Featherington (played by Nicola Coughlan) as she enters the social season alongside world traveler Colin Bridgerton (played by Luke Newton).

'Bridgerton' season 3 release date

The first four episodes of season 3 will be released Thursday, May 16. The second half of the season will arrive a month later on June 13.

How many episodes are there in 'Bridgerton' season 3?

There are eight episodes in "Bridgerton" season 3. They will be released in two parts – the first half being released May 16 and the second half coming June 13.

Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton reprise their roles as Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton, the principal characters followed in season 3.

Many other series regulars will return, including Claudia Jessie (Eloise Bridgerton), Luke Thompson (Benedict Bridgerton), Golda Rosheuvel (Queen Charlotte), Adjoa Andoh (Lady Danbury), Ruth Gemmell (Violet Bridgerton), Lorraine Ashbourne (Mrs. Varley), Simone Ashley (Kate Sharma), Jonathan Bailey (Anthony Bridgerton) and more.

The character of Francesca Bridgerton also reappears this season, but is now being played by Hannah Dodd. Ruby Stokes, the original cast member, left the "Bridgerton" cast to appear in Netflix's project, "Lockwood & Co."

Three new actors will take the "Bridgerton" stage in season 3: Sam Phillips as Lord Debling, Daniel Francis as Marcus Anderson and James Phoon as Harry Dankworth.
