A forthcoming two-part docuseries will explore the abuse allegations against actor Kevin Spacey, and a new trailer provides a first look at the series.

Investigation Discovery, a network that specializes in true crime documentaries, shared the trailer for Spacey Unmasked, on Wednesday morning.

According to the official description, Spacey Unmasked “will explore never-before-heard experiences and emotional testimony around allegations against the Oscar-winning actor for over three decades, tracing back to 1981,” including “first-hand accounts from multiple men who have previously not shared their stories publicly.”

In 2017, actor Anthony Rapp was the first to allege that Spacey made a sexual advance at him when he was 14 years old and Spacey was 26. In response, Spacey released a statement in which he said he didn’t remember the incident Rapp described and apologized, saying, “If I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology.” Spacey also came out as gay in the same statement, a move that was widely criticized as a distraction from the bombshell allegation.

Subsequently, dozens more people have come forward alleging that Spacey sexually harassed, assaulted, or attempted to rape them. Five of his accusers said they were teens at the time the alleged incidents took place, per USA Today. In 2022, a jury in a civil trial found Spacey did not sexually assault Rapp, to which Rapp responded that “a courtroom is not a safe space for trauma.” Though he was also charged with multiple counts of sexual assault in the U.K., he was found not guilty in 2023.

"Trans people too often struggle to access the sexual assault resources we need, particularly because resources for survivors are often gendered."

One day after the announcement of Spacey Unmasked, news broke that Spacey will return to a U.K. court next year after an anonymous man filed a lawsuit against him for alleged sexual assault, claiming that he “suffered psychiatric damage and other financial loss.”

In a recent appearance on right-wing YouTuber Dan Wootton’s show Dan Wootton Outspoken, Spacey spoke out about the allegations against him. “I take full responsibility for my past behavior and my actions,” he said. “But I cannot and will not take responsibility or apologize to anyone who’s made up stuff about me or exaggerated stories about me.”

Spacey Unmasked is set to premiere on May 13 on Investigation Discovery, and will also be available to stream on Max.
