If things were up to Marvel Studios, Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man would have made a cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, the originally planned Marvel Cinematic Universe plans were shaken up. What happened to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man cameo in Multiverse of Madness? Here’s what you need to know.
Why was Tom Holland’s Spider-Man cut from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness?
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man was cut from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
As costume designer Graham Churchyard recently revealed, Doctor Strange in his new costume and America Chavez were intended to be part of Spider-Man: No Way Home, with Spider-Man making a brief cameo appearance in Multiverse of Madness. But as fans know, COVID completely disrupted these plans. It wouldn’t have been much, but fans would have indeed enjoyed more wall-crawler’s on-screen time.
No Way Home was scheduled to be released after Multiverse of Madness. However, the release order was reversed due to the disruptions caused by COVID-19. No Way Home hit theaters in December 2021, while Multiverse of Madness in May 2022.

Did Doctor Strange forget Peter Parker in Multiverse of Madness?
Doctor Strange forgot Peter Parker was Spider-Man in Multiverse of Madness.
Doctor Strange might have forgotten Spider-Man’s real identity, but he hasn’t forgotten his fellow superhero’s existence or their many adventures together. That’s a possible way to explain what might be a potential plot hole in Multiverse of Madness.
Many fans raised eyebrows when Doctor Strange referenced his disastrous adventure with Spider-Man in the multiverse. After all, No Way Home ended with everyone forgetting Spider-Man’s real identity, including Peter Parker’s love interest, MJ. However, the upcoming MCU installments might offer a different (and official) explanation.
