Doctor Strange featurette explores other dimensions with trippy new footage

When EW spoke with Kevin Feige on the U.K. set of Doctor Strange last year, the Marvel Studios president promised that the film would feature some very trippy footage, as Benedict Cumberbatch’s injured surgeon is sent on a “magical mystery tour” of the so-called “multiverse” by Tilda Swinton’s Ancient One.

“Stan Lee and, in particular, Steve Ditko, who wrote these early comics and who drew these early comics, had an amazing psychedelic style,” Feige said. “So, how do you now do that in a way that doesn’t shy away from the absurdity and the surrealness of what those comic frames were? That’s our mission statement for the visual effects on this movie. [The sequence] literally takes him in a shocking and very fast way through the multiverse. The images can be just as trippy as those Ditko images were in the past. We hope that is one of the things that’s going to set this movie apart, certainly from any of the other Marvel movies, and hopefully from any other movie ever.”

Almost a year later, Marvel has now unveiled a glimpse of those psychedelic effects in a new featurette, which you can see above.
