Doctor Who’s Mark Gatiss to star in remake of classic family film
Doctor Who's Mark Gatiss has landed a new role, remaking a classic family film.
According to Radio Times, he will be directing and starring in The Amazing Mr Blunden – a one-off 90-minute special for Sky Original – and it sounds like a spooky tale.
The story follows London teenagers Jamie and Lucy Allen who are surprised when the titular Mr Blunden arrives at their home and offers their mother the caretaker job at a haunted house.
The official synopsis reads: "Jamie and Lucy have an encounter with what appears to be a pair of ghost children. But these spooky kids, Sara and Georgie, aren't actually ghosts. They've travelled forwards in time to seek help, believing they're going to be murdered by the wicked Mr and Mrs Wickens.
"And Lucy and Jamie's strange visitor seems to be the key to it all. With his help, they must travel back to 1821 to save Sara and Georgie and redeem their remorseful new friend – The Amazing Mr Blunden."
Gatiss revealed that everything about the project, which also stars Friday Night Dinner's Tamsin Greig, was "magical".

"I first came across the wonderful original film at primary school when it was shown on a battered old projector on that most hallowed of occasions – the last Friday before the Christmas holidays," he said in a statement. "In our new version, as in the book, the Allen family are very much from the modern world. I can't wait to share the adventure with a whole new audience."
Gatiss also recently revealed that there is a possibility he could return to Doctor Who and write some more episodes as the door has been left open for him.
"Very early on, Chris [Chibnall] emailed me – all the new writers were announced and everything and I sort of assumed that that was my time [over]," he told the Radio Times.
"But he sent me a lovely email saying 'you're very much part of the family, I'd love you to [write a new episode]', but I just haven't."
