‘Doctor Who’: The 10 Most Surprising Celebrity Appearances

With the ability to travel through all of time and space, the Doctor has met some pretty surprising faces, including several of his own, over the past 50-plus years. Many of those stars, like Star Trek’s Simon Pegg and Oscar-nominated Carey Mulligan, made their appearances on the venerable British science-fiction show early in their careers. And James Corden, long before he became the host of The Late Late Show, played the Eleventh Doctor’s flatmate — that’s roommate in British — Craig Owens.

But others, like former James Bond Timothy Dalton and Monty Python star John Cleese, cameoed well into their established careers, with the latter playing a TARDIS-admiring art patron in the classic episode “City of Death.” But perhaps the most surprising is the blink-and-you-miss-it appearance of former Today host Meredith Vieira giving a news report on Holy Roman Emperor Winston Churchill.
