Even though the debuts of two 30 for 30 directors are involved, Doc & Darryl is a sports story done in the trademark ESPN documentary series fashion. The lives and careers of two former New York Mets stars, young flamethrower Dwight “Doc” Gooden and feared power hitter Darryl Strawberry, will be examined by filmmakers Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio. They were the biggest stars on a team that captivated the attention of New York City and won the 1986 World Series while they were doing well. But Gooden and Strawberry unintentionally hurt Mets supporters as their personal lives started to spiral out of hand for both players.
