On Monday (Jan. 1), DJ Paul shared a post on social media in honor of Gangsta Boo on the one-year anniversary of her passing. “One year [ago] today, and I can feel it! Started feeling it a month ago,” the Three 6 Mafia legend wrote. “Rest, queen, you’ve worked hard enough.”

As REVOLT previously reported, Gangsta Boo was found dead on the front porch of her mother’s home in Memphis on New Year’s Day 2023. Several months later, an autopsy report confirmed that fentanyl, cocaine and alcohol were found in her system, revealing her death to be an accidental overdose. “The Mitchell family would like to thank everyone for their condolences regarding the untimely death of Lola ‘Gangsta Boo’ Mitchell,” stated her mother, Veronica Mitchell, at the time. “The family is asking for your continued prayers and privacy as we process the loss of our loved one.”

According to TMZ, Boo’s estate is working on a posthumous album — one that was initially intended to drop on what would have been her 44th birthday (Aug. 7, 2023). Latto, Skepta, Crunchy Black and Run the Jewels were named as possible features while Drumma Boy, Nick Hook and El-P were said to have been tapped to provide production. The outlet also stated that longtime collaborators DJ Paul and Juicy J, as well as Metro Boomin, were “in talks” to contribute.

Gangsta Boo’s last full-length LP, Enquiring Minds II: The Soap Opera, made landfall in 2003 with assists from Rasheeda, Kandi Burruss and more. After that drop, the late Three 6 Mafia alum continued her momentum via a slew of notable mixtapes, including Still Gangsta (The Memphis Queen Is Back), The Rumors, Candy, Diamonds & Pills, It’s Game Involved and Witch, the last of which was a joint project alongside La Chat. She also teamed up with BeatKing for the well-received Underground Cassette Tape Music series.
