DJ Mister Cee's Cause of Death Revealed as Diabetes-Related Coronary Artery/Kidney Disease

Cee died on April 10 at the age of 57

Mister Cee's cause of death has been determined.

According to a statement provided by the family to AllHipHop, the DJ's cause of death was "diabetes related coronary artery/kidney disease."

"On behalf of the Lebrun, Wilson, Calixte families we want to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support for our brother, uncle, nephew Calvin 'DJ Mister Cee' Lebrun in the wake of his untimely passing," the statement read. "It’s a huge loss for our entire family, the borough of Brooklyn and the entire Hip Hop Community."

It continued: "The Medical Examiner of NYC determined that his cause of death was diabetes-related coronary artery/kidney disease. Details about the public funeral service will be announced shortly. We ask that you please respect the family’s privacy during this extremely difficult time. Thank you.”

Cee (né Calvin LeBrun) died on April 10 at the age of 57, which his employer, radio station Hot 97, confirmed in a statement.

“As a family at HOT 97 and WBLS, we’re deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved Mister Cee. He wasn’t just a DJ,” the statement read. “He was a pillar of our stations, bringing joy to countless listeners with his legendary 'Throwback at Noon' and 'Friday Night Live' sets.”

It continued: “Mr. Cee’s influence stretched far beyond the airwaves, shaping the very fabric of NYC’s DJ culture. Our hearts are heavy as we send our love and condolences to his family and the fans whose lives he touched through his music. Rest easy, Mr. Cee. Your legacy will live forever.”

Known as “The Finisher,” Cee notably discovered hip-hop legend The Notorious B.I.G. after he was introduced to Biggie by friend DJ 50 Grand. Together, they collaborated on a demo, and soon enough, The Source's Unsigned Hype column caught wind of it, which ultimately led to a meeting with Sean “Diddy” Combs.

"The plan was we were going to redo the basement demo that he and 50 Grand put together," Cee told WBLS 107.5. “Big was very shy. He would always talk with his head down and say, ‘Yo man, don’t be promising me nothing, man. If you say you’re going to do something, do it.’ And I’m like, nah, we’re going to redo the demo."

Cee eventually became the associate executive producer on Biggie’s debut album, Ready to Die, in 1994.

The Brooklyn-born DJ was also known for his own work from when he was a DJ for Big Daddy Kane. He later appeared on Kane’s 1988 debut album, Long Live the Kane, and the late DJ is featured on the track “Mister Cee’s Master Plan.”

Cee later became the host of “Throwback at Noon” on HOT 97, where he showcased his encyclopedic knowledge of hip-hop and skills behind a turntable.
