DJ Khaled teaches Jimmy Kimmel about 'they' and the keys to success
On Thursday, Time — an EW sister publication — released its list of the 30 most influential people on the Internet, including Donald Trump, Kanye West, and in Jimmy Kimmel’s words, “a whole bunch of other people who should never be president of the United States.” One member of the list, DJ Khaled, has become one of the modern maestros of Snapchat, whom Kimmel had previously recruited to record an inspirational message for Jeb Bush. On Thursday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the host once again teamed up with Khaled, this time to learn Snapchat tips.
A big theme of Khaled’s Snapchat is his enumeration of the “keys to success” (usually indicated by a key emoji or Khaled saying “major key alert!”). In his limo, Khaled instructed Kimmel in the various keys to Snapchat: be yourself, spread positive energy, don’t fall for the trap, don’t drive your jet ski in the dark. Kimmel asked Khaled how many keys there are.
“You can never run out of keys,” Khaled said.
“That’s a lot of keys,” Kimmel said. “It’s like a high school janitor’s chain.”
Khaled then took Kimmel back to his bungalow, where he showed off the various free products he’s been sent for use in his Snapchat: fruit snacks, shoes, even Cinammon Toast Crunch-scented candles.
“That’s what’s so dope about Snapchat,” Khaled said. “We just being us, having fun, but we captured it.”
Another theme of Khaled’s Snapchat is the idea of “they.” “They” don’t want you to do things, “they” don’t want you to succeed. During “bungalow talk,” Khaled and Kimmel discussed the concept.

“Let me ask a question,” Khaled asked. “Did you ever encounter a ‘they’? Did someone ever say you would never have a Jimmy Kimmel show?”
“Yeah I have lots of ‘theys,’ absolutely,” Kimmel agreed. “I will say, it’s something that inspired me to work hard.”
“What’s happening is we’re filtering it out; we’ve exposed ‘they,’ now,” Khaled said.
