Your new favorite piercing trend has arrived! It’s a little edgy and very much celeb-approved, plus we have good news (especially if you’re just getting started in your piercing journey) — your noses and lips will be spared. The hot new trend is snakebite piercings…for your ears.

“Snakebites” usually consist of two piercings on the edge of your lower lip, one on each side of your mouth. If that seems intimidating to you, take comfort in the fact that this new iteration of the Snakebite is actually just two piercings stacked close together on your ear. It’s a super cute trend because if you’re anything like us, you have a bunch of teeny, tiny stud earrings that might not really make a statement on their own. Multiple ear piercings allow you to wear a stack of them all at once for some major wow factor.

The jewelry brand Studs is the mind behind the Snakebite® piercing. You might’ve seen their Studs Loves NYC collection all over Instagram, and they’re a total celeb favorite (Selena Gomez, Maude Apatow, Emma Watson, and Gwyneth Paltrow, to name a few). When it comes to their version of the snakebite piercing, Kaia Gerber was the first to popularize the look back in 2019. Rosalía did it next, and then most recently, Dixie D’Amelio got her snakebite piercings done.

The TikTok star posted photos of her look on her Instagram story, showing off her new piercing — Dixie adorned the trend with simple silver studs, while rocking tiny silver hoops in her double lobe piercings. This kind of stack is an easy way to spice up your jewelry game without having to sacrifice your minimalist style (you know, if minimalism is your jam).

Kaia went with a similar sort of stack, choosing gold for her mini-double hoops and snakebite piercings. It’s edgy without being loud, perfect for dipping your toe into the water when it comes to a non-lobe piercing. Kaia’s piercings are placed on the helix of her ear, and you can take a page out of her book by going for the tiniest studs for a dainty look that you’ll be able to wear anywhere from a party to a job interview.

Multiple ear piercings can open up a whole new world of playing around with fun jewelry, if you’re willing to make the jump. Celebs like Bella Hadid, Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Kylie Jenner have multiple piercings — Kylie has even rocked studs that say “K Y L I E” down the side of her outer ear. Iconic, if we do say so ourselves.

Seventeen asked Studs co-founder Lisa Bubbers what she thought of this new celeb-favorite piercing, and Lisa explained that she’s been seeing the style trending amongst Studs customers, too. “It’s our most popular piercing. Many people get their Snakebite® in their midi like Kaia Gerber, Dixie D’Amelio, Rosalia, and Olympian Tara Davis but we’ve also seen the piercings trending in more unexpected places like the Forward Helix and Conch.”

And if you’re thinking about getting a second piercing (or even just getting your ears pierced for the first time), we asked the experts at Banter by Piercing Pagoda to give us some insights.

Jim Kelly, Manager of Piercing Training, tells Seventeen that when it comes to aftercare, you should be using “H2Ocean spray twice daily, morning and night, spray and saturate the front and back of the area where the ear is pierced then gently swab the area with a q-tip making sure to remove any loose buildup. Do not use rubbing alcohol, peroxide, or Neosporin on any piercing at any time!"

You’ll also want to avoid soaps and hair products getting on the piercing area by rinsing shampoo and soap thoroughly after showering, as well as avoiding pools and bodies of water as often as possible during the healing process.

And if you’re thinking about getting a trendy fashion piercing, Jim tells us to make sure to check in with your piercer to see if your lifestyle is correct for the specific piercing you want. “Consider sports and other activities which require your piercings to be removed — if you take out your piercings before they are fully healed, there is a high chance of the piercing closing before you put it back in, and even if you are successful the risk of infection is much greater.”

If you’re looking to upgrade your jewelry game, there certainly is no shortage of options. Think innovative earrings like the Maison Miru nap earring with flat backs for comfortable snoozes and headphone-wearing, glow-in-the-dark earrings from Studs, and whimsical earrings (like fried eggs, rubber ducks, clouds, and gummy bears) that you can easily snap up on Amazon.
