Disturbed frontman David Draiman has called out Daily Show host Trevor Noah over his recent takedown of Joe Rogan. The metal singer dug up some past controversial jokes made by Noah to argue that his criticism of Rogan was “hypocritical” and “pathetic.”

Spotify recently removed more than 100 episodes of Rogan’s podcast due to misinformation and insensitive language, including the use of the N-word on multiple occasions. Over the weekend, Rogan himself apologized for using the N-word in the past, admitting it was the “the most regretful and shameful thing that [he’s] ever had to talk about publicly.” He added, “Instead of saying ‘the N-word’, I would just say the word. I thought as long as it was in context, people would understand what I was doing.”

On Monday’s episode of The Daily Show, Noah lambasted Rogan over his repeated use of the N-word, as well as a story in which the podcaster said he felt like he “walked into Africa” when he saw the movie Planet of the Apes in a predominantly Black neighborhood.

“If there’s ever a video of you saying the N-word that many times, you better pray one of two things: either you’re Black person, or you’re a dead man from history,” Noah said. “Then the worst thing they can do is take your statue down and move it into a museum. And as bad as it was to see Joe Rogan dropping the N-word like he bought it in bulk at Costco, an even worse part of the video is when Joe Rogan told a story about going to a movie in a Black neighborhood.”

Draiman shared Noah’s monologue on Twitter, and commented, “You’re a hypocritical, self righteous, pathetic man @Trevornoah,” while including a written compilation of Noah’s past jokes that many would consider offensive to Jews and victims of domestic violence.

One of Noah’s jokes read, “Almost bumped a Jewish kid crossing the road. He didn’t look b4 crossing but I still would have felt so bad in my German car.” Another went, “Originally, when men proposed they went down on one knee so if the woman said no they were in perfect uppercut position.”

Draiman added, “The rules should be the same for everyone. Be it @joerogan OR @Trevornoah. What I can’t stomach is holier than thou hypocrisy, claiming your shit doesn’t stink, but the other guy’s does. I don’t want either cancelled.” He continued, “Make all the jokes you want, but when @Trevornoah thinks his rhetoric is fine, but @joerogan‘s isn’t, or he doubts the sincerity of Joe’s apology when Trevor never even offered one, I have no problem calling him (Trevor) out for the self righteous hypocrite he is.”

Neil Young Vs. Joe Rogan and Spotify: The Rock, David Crosby, Joni Mitchell, and More Draw Battle Lines

The Disturbed singer, who is Jewish, has spoken out against anti-Semitism for many years. Draiman previously came out in support of Spotify after the company chose to keep streaming The Joe Rogan Experience despite an ultimatum by Neil Young, who had his own music removed from the platform in protest of the podcast’s “disinformation” on COVID-19 and vaccines. At that time, the Disturbed singer made it clear he did not necessarily agree with Rogan’s viewpoints, but was an advocate of “free speech.”

For his part, Trevor Noah did address his controversial jokes in the past, stating, “To reduce my views to a handful of jokes that didn’t land is not a true reflection of my character.”
