Shocking photo shows helpless fish that died after getting trapped inside discarded plastic glove
This distressing photo shows the realities of plastic waste and how it can be deadly to the world’s sea life.
Trapped inside a discarded plastic glove, the dead fish was discovered by scuba instructor Roger Millán while he was diving with clients off Tossa de Mar, Costa Brava, Spain, in July this year.
He said: ‘Unfortunately, this Flathead Grey Mullet was already dead. I did take the glove to dispose of it though.
‘It’s upsetting to see this as my job is to show people the beauty of our oceans and now it’s becoming more and more about making people more conscious of the problems.’
Roger said the beaches around the area are cleaned often so the pollution it isn’t noticeable at first.
He added: ’When you look closely though, you can’t miss the numerous small bits of plastic and lots of cotton ear bud sticks.

‘I’ve come across things like this before; such as an octopus living in a plastic bottle instead of the rocks, and many fish caught up in ghost fishing nets.
‘I cut free the ones which are alive.’
Roger said that governments needed to do more to tackle the issue of plastic pollution.
He said: ‘I think governments need stricter laws to prevent plastic pollution by banning single-use plastics and non-recyclable plastics and also protecting more areas of the coast from fishing.
‘Education is also incredibly important. Too many people don’t know anything about this.’
