Disney's Live-Action “Snow White” with Rachel Zegler Gets Pushed to 2025 — See the First Photo

Disney’s Snow White will have to wait a little longer before hitting the big screen.

The release date for the live-action reimagining, which stars West Side Story actress Rachel Zegler as the titular princess, was pushed from March 22, 2024, to March 21, 2025.

A first-look image shared Friday shows Zegler, 22, in character and surrounded by Dopey, Grumpy, Sneezy, Bashful, Happy, Sleepy and Doc. The movie will feature new songs from The Greatest Showman's Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.

The 1937 animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs helped pioneer the hand-drawn animation the studio would become known for, and it included the first Disney princess.

Its live-action reimagining follows others like 2017's Beauty and the Beast, 2019's Aladdin and The Lion King, and this year’s The Little Mermaid.

Disney changed release dates for several other titles. Elio, the sci-fi animated film co-produced with Pixar, has been moved from March 1, 2024, to June 13, 2025.

Searchlight Pictures, a distribution arm of Walt Disney Studios, removed Magazine Dreams from its Dec. 8 slot without specifying another release date.

The film, which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January, stars Jonathan Majors, who is due to face trial on Nov. 29 after his arrest in March over an alleged domestic dispute. (His lawyers maintain his innocence.)

Production company New Regency, also under Disney, indefinitely delayed The Bikeriders, which stars Austin Butler, Jodie Comer and Tom Hardy and was originally slated for Dec. 1.

Disney’s next animated musical, Wish, will still be released Nov. 22. Searchlight’s Poor Things, from Yorgos Lanthimos and starring Emma Stone, remains in its Dec. 8 slot. 

Directed by Marc Webb, 2025’s Snow White also stars Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen.

Zegler — who also leads Hunger Games prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, in theaters Nov. 17 — previously shared on X (formerly Twitter) of Snow White that "the love this film has brought me is magical."

"We did a really deep dive into fixing and making a modern woman out of Snow White," she told PEOPLE in 2022. The original iteration of the princess “does not work for today's audience,” she admitted. "I think she's 13 in the original cartoon, so we started there and said, 'No, she's 18 in this one.' She's a bit more independent.”

In a previous statement, director Webb said of Zegler, "Rachel's extraordinary vocal abilities are just the beginning of her gifts. Her strength, intelligence and optimism will become an integral part of rediscovering the joy in this classic Disney fairytale.”
