Disney Shelved 'The Mandalorian' Spin-Off Series 'Rangers Of The New Republic'

Remember Gina Carano? The Mandalorian star whom Disney fired for sharing anti-trans Tweets and a meme that compared canceled conservatives in America to Jews in Nazi Germany? Well, now the show that many Star Wars fans believe she was supposed to star in has been shelved by Lucasfilm execs. In an interview with Variety, Lucasfilm executive creative director Dave Filoni revealed that Rangers of the New Republic, one of the many planned Mandalorian spin-offs, was “no longer in active development.”

Disney reps have been purposefully hush-hush about Rangers of the New Republic ever since they introduced the series on Twitter in December of 2020. According to fans, that’s because the show was intended to be a vehicle for Gina Carano’s popular Mandalorian character Cara Dune. By the end of the second season of the show, Dune was a Marshal of the New Republic and seemed poised for a promotion to Ranger. But Carano’s offensive comments on social media started attracting attention around the same time as Disney’s announcement and, according to the fans, ultimately cost Dune her job. Of course, Disney hasn’t confirmed any of these details, but the timeline holds up.

Neither Disney nor Gina Carano seem to be upset over Rangers of the New Republic’s failure to come to fruition. Carano has moved on and is slated to star in a new project produced by Ben Shapiro’s conservative media company The Daily Wire. As for Lucasfilm and Disney, they have plenty more plotlines to produce, not to mention the upcoming premieres of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka.
