Disney+ releases new trailer for 'Percy Jackson' starring Walker Scobell of Fairview

Fans of Walker Scobell and Percy Jackson, mark your calendar for Dec 20.

That's the date the two-episode premiere of "Percy Jackson and the Olympians," starring Walker as the demigod, will start streaming on Disney+.

Disney+ dropped the latest teaser for the series on Tuesday and it had more than 1.6 million views on YouTube by Wednesday morning.

The 93-second teaser starts by showing scenes from the series with a voice-over by Walker speaking as his character. "My name is Percy Jackson," he says. "Am I a troubled kid? Yeah, you could say that. Bad grades, bullies, all the normal stuff. And then there's some stuff that's maybe not so normal."

The trailer goes on to show some of that, before ending with the date for the two-episode premiere of the series based on Rick Riordan's books. In addition to Walker, who is 14 and lives in Fairview Township, the show also stars Aryan Simhadri and Leah Jeffries.

Contacted by the Erie Times-News earlier this summer, Walker's mom, Heather Scobell, said they couldn't comment about "Percy Jackson" or any of her son's other projects due to the American actors' union SAG-AFTRA strike that began in July.

What's up next for Walker

"Blood Knot": According to his Disney+ biography, Walker will be playing a key role in the independent feature opposite Michael Douglas. The film, about a father who attempts to reconnect with his estranged son by inviting him to join a father-son fishing competition, also stars Douglas' son, Cameron Douglas, according to IMDb.com.

What Walker has done so far

"Percy Jackson and the Olympians": Earlier this year, Walker wrapped up filming the first season of the series for Disney+. The Disney+ website previously said the family fantasy action-adventure was "coming soon," in 2024, but has updated that to 2023. Independent entertainment news outlet The Direct reported July 1 that it looks like there will be a second season of the series.

"Secret Headquarters": This film with Owen Wilson, Michael Pena and Jesse Williams debuted on Paramount+ in August 2022. Walker plays a teen who discovers the headquarters of the world's most powerful superhero hidden beneath his home. When villains attack, he and his friends defend the headquarters and save the world.

"The Adam Project": This film with Ryan Reynolds, Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo was released on Netflix in March 2022. In the movie directed by Shawn Levy, Reynolds plays a time-traveling pilot who teams up with his 12-year-old self, played by Walker, to come to terms with his past while saving the future.

"Mary Poppins": Walker, then a fifth-grader, appeared as Michael in the 2019 Fairview Middle School production.
