Disney California Adventure’s Tower of Terror ride is one of the theme park’s most iconic attractions. But longevity and popularity weren’t enough to save it from being closed down in January in order to retrofit it in a new, modern (i.e. Marvel) way. Now, the venue is finally giving fans a first look at the spiffed-up attraction, which will be based on everyone’s favorite gang of intergalactic rogues — the Guardians of the Galaxy.
As first reported by EW.com, the official Disney Parks Blog has debuted a sneak video peek of what will now be known as Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! From the looks of these debut images and accompanying clip of a model of the finished product, the free-fall ride will now look like a comic-book power plant called “The Collector’s Fortress,” and will, per the site, feature retro music from the Guardians soundtrack.
First announced at last July’s San Diego Comic-Con, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! is set to open in summer 2017, right around the May 5, 2017 theatrical release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Writer-director James Gunn’s highly anticipated follow-up to 2014’s hit will bring back the entire cast along with new co-star Kurt Russell.
