Disney+ Has More ‘Star Wars’ TV Shows in Development, Bob Iger Says
Disney+ will launch next week with “The Mandalorian” as its tentpole series, with two more “Star Wars” shows on the way. Disney CEO Bob Iger said on Thursday that they plan to expand the beloved franchise even further on the small-screen, with have “more in development.”
“The Mandalorian,” from Jon Favreau, is the first-ever live-action TV show set in the “Star Wars” universe. Additional “Star Wars” TV shows include a “Rogue One” prequel following Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor character, and an untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi prequel starring Ewan McGregor.
“The Mandalorian” stars “Game of Thrones” alum Pedro Pascal as the title character, a Boba Fett-like bounty hunter. “The Mandalorian” follows the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic. The series is set five years after the events of “Return of the Jedi.” Luna will be joined by Alan Tudyk’s K-2S0 on the “Rogue One” series.

Disney+ also has a new season of the animated “Clone Wars” series coming in 2020.
Now if you’re not a fan of the space saga, don’t worry, because Disney+ isn’t going to be “Star Wars,” nothing but “Star Wars.” At launch, in addition to “The Mandalorian,” Disney+ will offer original shows like “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” “The World According to Jeff Goldblum,” and “Encore,” as well as the live-action “Lady and the Tramp” film and the Anna Kendrick-led Christmas movie “Noelle.” And all of that is on top of Disney’s housing its own vast library of content on the streaming service. Plus, there are several more projects in the works.
Disney+ launches next Tuesday, Nov. 12, and will cost $6.99 a month.
