Disney+ Launches Free Trial in the Netherlands

Exactly two months before it hits the market, Disney has launched a free trial version of its upcoming Disney+ streaming service in the Netherlands.

Dutch consumers will able to stream, for free, a limited amount of portfolio of library content. This means that exclusive original series including “The Mandalorian” and “Lady and the Tramp” are not included. The free trial, which lasts until Disney+’s Nov. 12 launch, is intended to serve as a technology trial.

Disney is not planning to do a test run in any other market.

The Disney+ trial is available on a selection of mobile and connected TV devices, including gaming consoles, streaming media players, and smart TVs.

Disney+ will be available in Canada and The Netherlands on the same day it launches in the United States on Nov. 12. It will launch seven days later in Australia and New Zealand. Disney expects the streaming service to be available in all major international markets within its first two years. The service will cost $6.99 a month and can be rolled up into a bundle that includes the ad-supported version of Hulu and ESPN+ for $12.99 a month.

Along with housing titles from Disney brands including Marvel, Pixar, Lucasfilm and its own vault, Disney+ will feature a number of original productions.

Among the original programming is “The Mandalorian,” the live-action “Star Wars” series helmed by Jon Favreau. Other series include a “Rogue One” prequel starring Diego Luna’s character Cassian Andor; a “Monsters, Inc.” sequel, “Monsters at Work,” with Billy Crystal and John Goodman reprising their roles; a “Love, Simon” adaptation; and “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.”

Additionally, Marvel Studios is developing eight series centered around characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first will be “Falcon and the Winter Soldier” in Fall of 2020, followed by “WandaVision,” “Loki,” “Hawkeye” and the animated “What If…” in 2021. Three more, “Ms. Marvel,” “Moon Knight” and “She-Hulk” have also been announced.
