The Dish: Restaurant 44 brings back chicken pot pie special
Now that Restaurant 44 has been back in operation for more than a month since its Nov. 1 reopening for the season, its daily specials roster has returned — an added bonus on top of the regular menus.
That means chicken pot pie ($30) — a longtime 44 favorite that’s a must for numerous patrons — is available once again Tuesday evenings, featuring free-range chicken, seasonal vegetables and a puff-pastry crown.
A different daily special at Restaurant 44, 44 Cocoanut Row, is offered nightly from Tuesday through Saturday while the regular daily menu offers a variety of dinner dishes — from such appetizers as tuna tartare ($22) and burrata-and-heirloom tomato salad ($19) to such entrees as veal tournedos ($44) and charred octopus ($42).
Along with the chicken pot pie, the resumed nightly specials prepared by executive chef Sam Norwood and his team include Maryland-style crab cake ($38) on Wednesdays with grilled asparagus, fingerling potatoes and Aji amarillo aioli.
Thursday’s special is chef’s choice.
Shrimp and grits ($34) is featured Fridays and served with scallion and tasso cream. Fridays and Saturdays herald split-roasted half duck ($44) with fondant potato, Brussels sprouts and orange glaze.
A 12-ounce prime-grade coulotte steak ($48) also is a Saturday special, with fingerling potatoes, roasted kabocha and Bearnaise sauce.
