Discovery’s ‘Alaska Homicide’ Tries to Solve Cold Cases — First Look

“I’ve been all over the country and there is no state like Alaska. It’s easy to dump bodies here,” former Alaska State Trooper Lantz Dahlke says in the announcement of Discovery’s newest true crime series, Alaska Homicide. “If you shove a body into a crab pot, push it into 150 feet of water, they’re gone forever. Not only are cold cases dark and sinister in nature, but literally for six months we have less sunlight than any other state. It’s a forbidding feeling.”

Dahlke was a member of the Alaska Bureau of Investigation’s Cold Case Unit until it was disbanded. Each week on Alaska Homicide, premiering June 2, he sets out to continue his work in the hope that he and his team can bring victims’ families and friends answers.

Alaska has more missing people per capita than any other state. In the premiere, the team investigates the disappearance of a Texas native who went missing on a road outside of Nome (was he killed by a bear, as some believe, or murdered?) and the 2004 mystery of a man who came to town to visit his girlfriend and vanished under suspicious circumstances.

Alaska Homicide premieres June 2 at 10 p.m. on Discovery.
