Discovery's 'Racing Extinction' in Global Event Trailer

“We’re on that tipping point now where it’s either too late or just the beginning of a movement.”

On December 2, Discovery will air Racing Extinction, a documentary from Louie Psihoyos, director of the 2009 Oscar winner The Cove and executive director of the Oceanic Preservation Society, worldwide. Yahoo TV has an exclusive first look at the stirring minute-long promo.

As the network notes, scientists predict that the human footprint on the planet may cause the loss of half of the world’s species by the end of the century. They believe we have entered the sixth mass extinction in Earth’s history (the fifth saw the death of dinosaurs).

But as Jane Goodall says in the trailer, “If we all lose hope, there is no hope. There’s still a lot left that’s worth fighting for.” That’s why, in addition to exposing the difficult-to-watch threats to endangered species across the globe, the film will also spotlight solutions. In the spirit of the film, the #StartWith1Thing campaign hopes to inspire viewers to make small changes in their lives that can have a big impact.

Racing Extinction premieres Dec. 2 at 9 p.m. ET on Discovery.
