“ENERGY” features a sample of the preacher Eric Thomas, whose voice was the prominent sample behind their 2013 song “When a Fire Starts to Burn.” The brothers explained in a statement that Thomas’ words in the new song inspired the title of the album. “When we found Eric many years ago, he was like a goldmine of inspirational quotes and motivational speeches,” Disclosure said in a statement.

“Even if he was speaking to a room of five, it was like he was addressing a stadium. He has an immense presence and energy about him that translates so well into music – especially house music. This time, we cut up various speeches to make something that makes sense. What he says is basically the whole concept for the record, that’s why it became the title track.”

Earlier this year, Disclosure released a series of songs throughout a week at the end of February, which culminated in the release of the Ecstasy EP. None of the five songs from that EP appear on ENERGY.

The new album follows Disclosure’s 2015 sophomore album Caracal. Revisit Pitchfork’s interview with the Lawrences about that album, “Brothers Gonna Work It Out: Disclosure Break Down Every Song on Their New LP.”
