Maura Murray was an athlete and nursing student who was reported missing on February 9, 2004. Murray was studying nursing at the University of Massachusetts at the time of her disappearance. Nearly 20 years later, the disappearance of Maura Murray remains one of the most mysterious unsolved missing cases that were ever reported.

On the day she disappeared, at 7:30 pm, Maura Murray drove to Haverhill, New Hampshire for an unknown reason, according to FBI records. She was in her black-colored four-door Saturn Sedan when the car skidded off the road and got stuck along Route 112. When the local police arrived at the scene after being notified about a car crash, they did not find Maura there. All her possessions, however, remained in the vehicle. She was reportedly wearing a dark jacket and jeans at the time of her disappearance. She was recorded on surveillance footage at an ATM on the same day.

At 4:37, authorities marked her last known use of cell phone when she opened it to check her voicemail. She did not make it clear to any of her friends or acquaintances, why she was going to Haverhill. Maura Murray hasn’t been heard from since. Maura’s sister Julie has spoken out about the disappearance. She complained about the lack of updates from authorities in her conversation with Western Mass News.

According to the U.S. Sun, Maura had recently gotten into a car crash and caused some damage to her father, Fred’s car. Fred believes Maura Murray wanted to just get away for a few days when her disappearance was recorded. She also reportedly got into an issue with a stolen credit card only sometime before she went missing.

How old was Maura Murray when she disappeared?

Maura Murray was a 21-years-old on February 9, 2004, when she was reported missing. She was born in Hanson, Massachusetts on May 4, 1982. Maura attended Whitman-Hanson Regional High School. Later, she began pursuing chemical engineering at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York. She studied there for three semesters and then transferred to the University of Massachusetts in Amherst to pursue nursing.

Four days before her disappearance, she was working at her University’s security department when she received a phone call. Although no one seemed to know who the call was from, she was allegedly left in tears by the end of it. A supervisor walked her home as she couldn’t continue work after the call.

Maura was an avid runner and enjoyed hiking in the White Mountains. Her father, reportedly claimed that Maura would never want him to give up on her and continues to fight for justice while her sister also continues to question authorities on their efforts to find Maura Murray. In 2019, the police reportedly dug up and searched a home in Haverhill which they believed could reveal clues of Maura’s whereabouts. However, the search didn’t end up offering any answers.
