We are winging it here in the capital city in celebration of National Chicken Wing Day on July 29.

Call your wingman or your wingwoman and go have a wingding. Take someone under your wing for the fun of it! But certainly don't clip your wings, or sit in the wings for this one.

Spread your wings, bring on the napkins and prepare to get your hands messy. Dry or drippy, you will be sticky.

Here is a taste of some of Tallahassee's most popular restaurants specializing in wings.

A Town Wings

Naturally, considering the name, this franchise was founded in Atlanta. In 2008, chicken shop owners came up with a concept to serve guests gourmet wings at a fast food rate. A Town Wings has two stores in Tallahassee and 17 in the southeast. The 5-piece traditional order goes for $9.77. The restaurant is also known for its Philly Cheese Steaks. Closed Sundays.

Buffalo Wild Wings has buy-one-get-one-free boneless wings every Thursday. It also has a new Blazin’ Knockout sauce, made from nine hot peppers: Devil’s Breath, Carolina Reaper, Scorpion, Ghost, Habanero, Red and Green Jalapenos, Chile de Arbol and Cayenne.

This casual sports bar is loaded with wings, burgers and more. Jumbo wings start at $9.69 for five bone-in wings with one sauce. Try up to 35 sauces, which get hot in a hurry with Roasted Garlic Inferno, Fire and Ice (buffalo meets horseradish) and Coco Loco (coconut, lime, habanero).

The message here is "get baked." Wings, that is. And fries. The popular franchise restaurant is bright and airy with lots of giant screens for sports and roomy outside seating. The baked wings, touted as lower in fat, are crispy and flavorful, dry or saucy, with heat ratings from the mild Sweet Bourbon BBQ to the dangerous sounding Scorpion ($3 extra, gloves recommended). Wings start at $10.95 for six traditional; $9.95 for boneless or veggie versions and go up to $44.95 for 30. Pick your sauce, including Buttermilk Ranch, Bleu Cheese and Wasabi Ranch and more.

Miller's Ale House

This chain, started in Jupiter, Florida, is known for its chicken tenders, dubbed Zingers, but also serves fresh chicken wings. Available in 6 wings, 12 wings or 24 wings, with sauces from mild to Sweet Thai Chili to Mt. St. Helens. Wednesday's special is 12-count wings for $8.99, dine-in only.
