Dior Is Everywhere All of a Sudden

Dior has been inescapable for the past couple of weeks. In New York earlier this month, celebrities like Norah Jones, Maye Musk, and Alexandra Daddario could be seen flitting around East 89th street in Dior gowns for the house’s final International Gala at the Guggenheim. In London, motifs from the cruise 2023 collection — compass roses, lucky stars, and sparkling florals — were reimagined as Christmas lights in the windows of Harrods for The Fabulous World of Dior, marking the first time in history a brand has ever taken over the display of the iconic London department store. And on every recent red carpet, Dior's presence has been ubiquitous.

Anya Taylor-Joy’s outfits for The Menu press tour have been reposted all over the internet, but none have been more talked about than her two Dior looks. For the New York premiere of the movie, she wore a crinoline skirt and fishnet laser-cut gloves as seen on the spring 2023 runway. And for Harper’s BAZAAR UK Woman of the Year Awards, the actress opted for a lace bralette and a matching hoop petticoat from the same collection.

At the Marrakech Film Festival, Isabel Huppert upstaged everyone in a Dior couture black pleated silk hooded coat and a spring 2018 tuxedo gown. For the Academy’s 13th Governors Awards, Jennifer Lawrence opted for black tulle from Dior spring 2023, and Michelle Williams wore red silk chiffon from Dior fall 2022. The brand has started to chronicle all of these looks on Instagram with the #starsindior, which now has over 12,000 correlating posts, most from the past few months.

Maye Musk tried to pin down the brand's appeal while getting ready for the last Guggenheim Gala. “The Dior team showed me five outfits designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, and I asked them to show me their favorite outfit to start the fitting,” she said. “They chose this stunning skirt and top that fit perfectly. The material felt so rich and smooth that I felt like a princess. I didn’t need to go through the other outfits. I felt comfortable and elegant.”

In her six years helming the house, Maria Grazia Chiuri has modernized its fantastical looks and created a vision of practical luxury. Her work is often lauded for being easy to wear, but at the same time, as Musk suggests, it has the ability to make you feel like a princess, whether you're reigning over a gala or just the mundane tasks of your everyday life.

Maybe people especially want to feel like royalty right now after two years of barely dressing up. Or maybe the newest season of The Crown is to blame—as expected, it features plenty of Dior. The Lady Dior bag was, after all, famously named after Princess Diana herself, who was first seen wearing the bag in 1995. In the newest season of The Crown, actress Elizabeth Debicki emulates Princess Diana so well it may make you gasp, and naturally holds a Lady Dior bag while she does it.

Whatever it may be, Dior has truly been everywhere this fall. And we bet there's far more in store for 2023.
