New diner offers popular breakfast and more on Evansville's East Side
EVANSVILLE − You can’t go wrong with a good, old-fashioned American diner offering breakfast, classic sandwiches and hearty dinner entrees.
Frankie’s Restaurant has opened on Logan Drive in the restaurant space near White Castle formerly occupied by the original Mele’s Diner and, more recently, Jalisco Taqueria. It’s on the side of the building facing away from Morgan Avenue and isn’t easy to see, but Frankie’s is already getting a lot of buzz on social media and diners are seeking it out, so you might enjoy giving it a try – especially if you’re a lover of breakfast.
The owner, Frankie Gonzales, has worked in the restaurant business for many years and drew from his experience with diner food and Tex-Mex specialties to make the menu at Frankie’s. He knows customers like big portions of scratch food freshly prepared every day and delivers on that.
Breakfast menu at Frankie's
Breakfast is a big deal at Frankie’s and is served from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. There are tons of choices on the menu, including a whole section of egg benedicts, all served with hashbrowns or hand-cut breakfast potatoes. The Chipotle Poached Benedict is especially interesting – it’s a split biscuit topped with poached eggs, chorizo sausage, chipotle gravy and a side of avocado.
The Florentine Benedict is more classic, on an English muffin with sauteed spinach, tomatoes, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce.
Other breakfast items include breakfast skillets, egg and meat platters, omelets, French toast (including a tres leches version), waffles, breakfast burritos, pancakes, crepes and much more.
There are many unusual breakfast meat options, so, in addition to ham, bacon and sausage, you may find entrees with ribeye steak, breaded fried steak, breaded pork tenderloin, gyro meat and chorizo sausage.
Lunch menu at Frankie's
Lunch is served from 10:30 a.m. until close. Lighter eaters will love the selections of salads and wraps. Burgers range from a dressed hamburger to an old school patty melt to a mozzarella mushroom bacon burger. Other sandwiches include a turkey club and ribeye steak sandwich. All are served with one side.

Dinner
Dinner entrees are served after 3 p.m. in addition to the lunch menu. Look for fried chicken, a seared ribeye steak with mushrooms, meatloaf and more.
There is a children's menu, and a liquor license for beer and wine will be coming eventually.
