“The Dinah is as much about celebrating our queerness unfiltered and in the most authentic way as it is about elevating the inspiring new young queer voices of the moment — the queer idols of tomorrow — who are bettering the lives of the LGBTQ+ community and allies around the world,” Mariah Hanson, founder and producer of The Dinah, said in a statement.

Who can attend The Dinah?

Even though Hanson described the event to The Desert Sun in 2021 as "predominantly female identified," it's never been an all-women's event and she's never taken that stance.

"We have to celebrate that The Dinah is about living out loud, diversity, inclusivity, expression and who are any of us to define that as anything other than positive and welcoming?" Hanson told The Desert Sun in 2021.

The event also welcomes transgender and nonbinary patrons and what Hanson described as "a lesbian or queer woman bringing her best friend who is a guy."

"We can’t be intolerant in our own community and expect the world to embrace tolerance, we have to be what we want," Hanson told The Desert Sun in 2021. "The Dinah has never been that way, and we have welcomed transgender, nonbinary — because that’s people’s expression of who they are."

As part of its commitment to the community to offer queer and nonbinary talents exposure, The Dinah will be showcasing two artists, which have yet to be announced, in the Emerging Artist Contest during the opening and closing parties at Reforma Palm Springs.

Who's performed at The Dinah in the past?

According to its website, the "world's largest lesbian and queer women event" draws 15,000-plus attendees throughout the weekend.

The weekend was created in 1991 by Hanson under her Club Skirts Marquis. In previous years, the festival has attracted Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Fletcher, Pat Benatar and The Pussycat Dolls. Actress Jane Lynch has also appeared at the event in the past.

In 2014, the LGBT Community Center of the Desert presented Hanson with the Legacy Award at its annual fundraising gala Center Stage. That same year, she received a lifetime achievement award at the Greater Palm Springs Pride Honors.
