From to dill pickle fudge to bug chow mein, here are some of Wisconsin State Fair's new food items
The Wisconsin State Fair has announced the new foods coming to this year's fair on Aug. 3-13.
Included in the 104 new foods are a number of vegan options, several new deep fried and "on-a-stick" offerings and the annual Sporkies food competition nominations (as well as a few Drinkies, new for this year).
Here are a few new food items that stand out.
The 'very Wisconsin' items
If you love all things Wisconsin — which, when you're talking about food, usually means a lot of cheese — here are some foods to look out for.
The Brat & Kraut Cheese Curd Taco at Richie's Cheese Curd Tacos, consisting of Johnsonville Brat bites, cheddar cheese curds, sauerkraut and beer 'n brat mustard in a fried flour tortilla.
Deep-fried bacon cheese curds will be at Brad & Harry's Cheese Curds.
The Wisconsin Quesadilla, a Sporkies item, will be sold at Mexican Grill. It's described as a tortilla topped with cheese curds, brats, grilled onions, grilled peppers and shredded cheese.
The deep-fried or on-a-stick items
A beer-battered corn dog dipped in a hot Wisconsin cheddar sauce will be at George's Fun Foods.
Deep-fried apple pie (one of the Sporkies items) will be at Saz's BBQ. It's described as deep-fried white bread filled with apple pie filling, topped with caramel and cinnamon sugar.
A deep-fried chocolate-covered strawberry Twinkie will be at Deep-Fried Sweet Treats on-a-stick.
Oreo Crumble Cookie Dough on-a-stick will be at Kora's Cookie Dough.
The trendy items
Bubble tea is very trendy, and State Fair is jumping on the trend with the Bubble Tea & Waffles vendor, which will sell build-your-own boba drinks, as well as such items as bacon cheddar bubble waffles and garlic parmesan bubble waffles.
You can get your nitro coffee at Slim McGinn's Irish Pub, where they'll be serving a Limerick Nitro Latte — nitro coffee with cream, non-alcohol Irish cream syrup, house-made whipped cream and a sugar garnish.
Twisted Plants will serve a number of vegan items including a vegan brat slider, a vegan corn dog, vegan deep-fried Oreos and vegan fried pickles.
The hot and spicy items
The Atomic Slush, billed as "the world's hottest slush," will be at the Exotic Meat Grill.
A crispy jalapeño chipotle chicken sandwich (a spicy chicken breast, jalapeño cilantro cabbage blend, avocado mash and spicy jalapeño chipotle sauce on a toasted bun) will be at Blue Moon Tavern at the Park.
Hot House chicken nuggets and a Hot House chicken sandwich will be at Leff's Miller Lite Sports Bar & Grill.
The 'Why are these ingredients combined?' items
Dill pickles and fudge are both popular State Fair items, but at Sherwood's Fabulous Fudge, you can have both with their dill pickle fudge.
A hyped Sporkies item is the dill pickle donut (a yeast donut with dill pickle juice, whipped cream cheese frosting, topped with pickles) at Fluffy's Hand Cut Donuts.
Then there's the Flamin' Hot Cheetos chocolate bark at Ultimate Confections, which admittedly could also fit in the hot and spicy items category.
And, if you would prefer to have your baked potato and your popcorn all in one dish, Loaded Potato Kettle Corn will be at Pop's Kettle Corn.
The bug items
If you can't leave State Fair without sampling a few insect-laden foods, here are some options.
A bug brownie on-a-stick will be at All Things Jerky.
Bug chow mein will be at Exotic Meat Grill.
