Diddy To Receive Global Icon Award At 2023 MTV VMAs

Sean “Diddy” Combs will receive the Global Icon Award at the 2023 MTV VMAs in honor of his “unparalleled” career.

On Tuesday (Sept. 5), MTV announced that the 53-year-old hitmaker is being celebrated with the award in light of his “continued influence” and “unrivaled global success in music and beyond.” He is the first Hip-Hop artist to receive the Global Icon Award and the third overall, following the Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Diddy will also hit the stage at the 2023 MTV VMAs, which will be his first performance at the awards show since 2005. That year, the Harlem rep hosted the VMAs and paid tribute to The Notorious B.I.G. by performing “Juicy” and Warning” alongside Snoop Dogg.

His history with the VMAs goes back 25 years, when he performed “I’ll Be Missing You” with Faith Evans and Sting in 1997. He would return to the VMA stage for a performance in 2002, rocking the stage with the hit singles “Bad Boy for Life,” “Pass the Courvoisier (Part 2)” and “I Need a Girl (Parts 1 & 2).”

Diddy has won multiple VMAs, including Best R&B Video for “I’ll Be Missing You,” and the Viewer’s Choice award for “It’s All About the Benjamins (Rock Remix).” He has also received VMA nominations for Video of the Year, Best Rap Video, and Best Video from a Film.
