It’s been over a decade since Shaunie and Shaquille O’Neal called it quits on their marriage and filed for divorce. While the two seemed happy together during their marriage, their relationship ultimately ended in divorce after seven years. Recently, Shaunie made a shocking revelation about her love life with Shaq in her memoir. Here are all the details.

What did Shaunie say about Shaq?

Recently, Shaunie Henderson made a startling statement about her relationship with O’Neal in her memoir Undefeated: Changing the Rules and Winning on My Own Terms. She claimed that after looking at her past, she had no idea if she was ever really in love with the legendary player. She also emphasized that she loved the idea of being with someone and building a life together. “I was in love with the idea of being married to the man I had a family with,” she stated.

Upon reading her memoir, Shaq was quick to take to Instagram to share his opinion on Shaunie’s statements. He uploaded a black background picture with the text that read, “I understand…I wouldn’t have been in love with me either. Wishing you all the best. All Love, Shaq.” Further, he also captioned his post saying, “Trust me, I get it.”

This isn’t the first time Shaquille O’Neal has expressed his regrets over ruining a seemingly perfect relationship. He has openly admitted to cheating on his ex-wife and has felt guilty about it, too. As per E! News, in The Big Podcast with Shaq in 2022, he said, “I did it. I was the best at it. I’m not proud of it. I lost my family doing it, and I lost valuable and important years with my children from doing it.”

Shaunie and Shaquille O’Neal’s relationship dates back to 1996 when the latter bid adieu to Orlando Magic and got signed as a free agent by the Los Angeles Lakers. After this, he met his ex-wife Shaunie, a film marketer, for whom it was the first time dating an NBA player. In 2002, they got married and now they parent six kids together, including two children from their previous relationships. While O’Neal’s career peaked massively during the time they were married, a lot of problems, including Shaq’s infidelity issues, which he admitted to in his 2011 book Shaq Uncut: My Story, impacted their relationship, and they eventually got divorced. At present, Shaunie is married to Keion Henderson.
