Did prince Harry Even Want to Step Down as a Senior Royal?
Not even two weeks ago, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down as Senior Royals, handing in their titles. Although many of their fans were surprised by the news, some said they saw it coming and it was just a matter of time.
However, did Prince Harry even want to step down as a Senior Royal in the first place? The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not said too much since they turned in their Royal titles. However, Prince Harry recently gave a speech talking about everything that happened to cause them to step down from their Royal Duties.

Prince Harry's wife, Duchess Meghan Markle has been treated badly by the media ever since she became a member of the Royal Family. Many members of the media have had a lot of mean things to say about her, criticizing her every move and even her parenting skills.
Markle was used to the spotlight before, being an actress on the legal series, 'Suits'. However, she wasn't prepared for as much spotlight as being a member of the Royal Family gave her and stated that it was unfair to her.
During a charity event for his charity, Sentebale, Prince Harry gave a speech talking about Megxit. The speech was very heartfelt and revealed the truth behind them stepping down. He talked about how much he loved his family, including his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.
He also revealed that it was his decision to finally step down and renounce their Royal titles, and not Meghan's, as everyone believed before. He said, that unfortunately, they didn't have any other choice but to step down altogether.
He said in his speech, "We both do everything we can to fly the flag and carry out our roles for this country with pride. Once Meghan and I were married, we were excited, we were hopeful, and we were here to serve. For those reasons, it brings me great sadness that it has come to this. The decision that I have made for my wife and I to step back, is not one I made lightly. It was so many months of talks after so many years of challenges. And I know I haven’t always gotten it right, but as far as this goes, there really was no other option."
He also revealed that he and Meghan didn't want to step down at all. What they really wanted to do was to keep their Senior Royal titles but to not receive any money from the public. However, since they are new parents, this wasn't an option for them so they chose to step down altogether.
He also said, "What I want to make clear is we’re not walking away, and we certainly aren’t walking away from you. Our hope was to continue serving the Queen, the Commonwealth, and my military associations, but without public funding. Unfortunately, that wasn’t possible. I’ve accepted this, knowing that it doesn’t change who I am or how committed I am. But I hope that helps you understand what it had to come to, that I would step my family back from all I have ever known, to take a step forward into what I hope can be a more peaceful life."
This speech was an eye-opener for everyone. It proved that there wasn't and isn't any bad blood between him and his family. Also, it proved that the final decision that was made by Prince Harry for him and his wife and child was not the first choice and was far from the choice they wanted to make in the first place. However, they seemed to have no real options left.
Maybe this decision of theirs will allow them to live a peaceful life without the media all over them all the time.
