Did “Veep” actor and comedian Matt Walsh really deserve to be the first contestant eliminated from “Dancing with the Stars” in season 32? Watch his “Premiere Night” cha cha above. And here’s what the judges had to say about it.

Carrie Ann Inaba: “That dance was different. You are adorable. What I like is ‘Dancing with the Stars’ is about playing to your strengths, and you definitely played to your strengths. It reminded me of old-school ‘Dancing with the Stars’ where we had people who came out here who weren’t the best dancers but they gave us a good time, and that’s half the fun. There’s a lot of work, a lot of work.”

Derek Hough: “I think the face-ography was unbelievable, and I was mesmerized, I truly was. I almost forgot to watch the dancing, so great strategy.”

Bruno Tonioli: “You definitely floored me. I need an antidote. You made it yours. I’ve never seen so many different faces and movements. I’m not sure what it is. It was surreal. It was entertaining, what can I say?”

Walsh got the lowest judges’ score (fours across the board for a total of 12 out of 30), tied with reality star Harry Jowsey and model Tyson Beckford. But Jowsey and Beckford were safe after viewer voters were factored in. Walsh wasn’t so lucky. He ended up in the bottom two with real estate agent and reality TV personality Mauricio Umansky. When all was said and done he was ousted from the competition.

That outcome was especially disappointing because Walsh almost self-eliminated before the competition even started. The celebrities were under pressure to drop out while the Writers Guild of America was on strike, but Walsh was the only one who announced plans to do so. ABC almost delayed the season entirely, but moved forward — with Walsh — after the WGA finally struck a deal two days before the scheduled “DWTS” premiere date. I’d hoped Walsh’s brave stance would earn him some goodwill from fans, but it didn’t work out that way. What did you think of his abrupt exit?
