Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, starring Evan Peters as notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, quickly rose to the #1 spot on Netflix after being released on September 21, 2022. Both the TV series and Peters' portrayal have received high praise, despite backlash from family members of Dahmer's victims who were not contacted about the show before it was released to the public.

The 10-episode series covers the Dahmer murders that happened while he was living in the Oxford Apartments in Milwaukee, WI. The show also explores Dahmer's relationship with his parents, Shari and Lionel Dahmer, as well as his prison sentence and death. Ahead, we break down Jeffrey Dahmer's final days in prison and how he died.

Dahmer's short time in person was marked by conflict. He was kept in protective custody with limited interaction with other prisoners, although he was given permission to eat meals, take classes, and do work with other inmates after his first year. Dahmer would joke about cannibalism, shaping his food into body parts and using ketchup to create "blood" while taunting guards and other inmates about biting them. Prison pastor Roy Ratcliff remembered Dahmer having a Cannibals Anonymous Meeting poster on his wall.

Anderson was in prison for stabbing his wife. After committing his crime, he then proceeded to stab himself, although he survived his suicide attempt. Anderson blamed the stabbing on two young Black men and doctored false evidence to present to the police.

Why didn't Jeffrey Dahmer receive the death penalty?

Wisconsin abolished the death penalty in 1853, which is 139 years before Dahmer was convicted in 1992. The death penalty was not an option for Dahmer, although the serial killer verbalized that it was something he wished for in a court statement.
