Anderson is an 11-time Emmy nominee for producing and starring on “Black-ish” on ABC. Surprisingly, he never won any major awards for his role as Andre “Dre” Johnson on the long-running comedy, but his TV wife Tracee Ellis Ross, who played Rainbow “Bow” Johnson, did take home a 2017 Golden Globe.

During his monologue on Monday night’s ceremony, Anderson sang classic songs from “The Facts of Life,” “Good Times” and “Miami Vice” while doing his best Mister Rogers impression. He then instructed all of tonight’s impending winners to speak quickly during their speeches, or else his Mama, Doris Hancox, would interrupt them on the big stage. Anderson’s monologue wasn’t too heavy on jokes, as it was more focused on his singing chops and his personality.

Prior to Anderson, other Emmys hosts from the modern era include Kenan Thompson (2022), Cedric the Entertainer (2021), Jimmy Kimmel (2020, 2016, 2012), Michael Che & Colin Jost (2018), Stephen Colbert (2017), Andy Samberg (2015), Seth Meyers (2014) and Neil Patrick Harris (2013, 2009). A woman hasn’t hosted the Emmy Awards since Jane Lynch in 2011.
