It was an up and down few weeks on “Dancing with the Stars” for NFL athlete Adrian Peterson, culminating in his elimination at the end of “Disney100 Night” in week four. Did he really deserve to be eliminated for the Viennese waltz he performed inspired by the movie “Dumbo”? Watch the routine above, and vote in our poll at the bottom of this post.

His “Premiere Night” dance got mixed reviews and a score of 18 out of 30. That actually placed him pretty high on the judges’ leaderboard, and he was ultimately safe from elimination. “Latin Night” was a step back for him. He scored 15 out of 30 and was second to last on the leaderboard. This time he was in the bottom two when viewer votes were added in, but Jamie Lynn Spears was sent home instead. “Motown Night” was a slight step up from there, but he was still struggling with technique.

“Disney100 Night” was actually a breakthrough dance for the footballer. He looked more relaxed, had more elegance and refinement, he extended his lines more fully. He got his best scores — straight sevens for a total of 21 out of 30. That was good enough to tie him for sixth place on the leaderboard. But this was the week he was eliminated from the competition.

So what happened? “Latin Night” showed that he already had an inconsistent fan base, and his relatively strong scores on “Disney100 Night” might have given them a false sense of security. There’s also the controversy that surrounded Peterson regarding allegations of child abuse. “DWTS” fans familiar with that past might have been reluctant to cast votes for him no matter how well he danced. As a result, several celebs who scored lower than him on the leaderboard leaped ahead of him when viewer votes were added in. What did you think of this outcome?
