Starry Night will also include live music by David Shapiro, a raffle, and refreshments. It will be held at Portsmouth Historical Society, 10 Middle St., in Portsmouth from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

Taraz presents songs enjoyed by both sides during the American Revolution, exploring the fascinating world behind the lyrics. In colonial dress, she sings and plays a mountain dulcimer and a guitar type of instrument, which women played in Colonial times. Taraz says she loves to discover the stories of those usually left out of history.

According to Taraz, “Women played a large role in the revolutionary era but their stories were often hidden behind indifference or their status as part of their husbands’ estate.”

Tickets: The event is open to the public. Tickets are $50 for adults and can be purchased at StarIsland.org.
