This Diane Keaton Flick Is the New #8 Movie on Netflix

We’re spreading the word about this must-watch Diane Keaton comedy that’s now gaining popularity on Netflix.

The 2019 flick Poms recently claimed the number eight spot on the streaming service’s list of most-watched movies. (It’s currently ranked behind The Vault, The Losers, Resort to Love, Five Feet Apart and The Last Mercenary.)

Poms is a slightly misleading title—although the movie is about cheerleading, it’s not like Bring It On. Instead, it tells the story of Martha (Diane), a shy woman who moves to a retirement community. At first, she’s not interested in participating in activities like golf and shuffleboard.

Everything changes when she meets her neighbor, Sheryl (Jacki Weaver), who becomes her close friend. Together, they form a cheerleading squad with their fellow residents.

Other cast members include Rhea Perlman (Olive), Pam Grier (Alice), Celia Weston (Vicki), Alisha Boe (Chloe), Phyllis Somerville (Helen), Charlie Tahan (Ben), Bruce McGill (Chief Carl), Carol Sutton (Ruby), Ginny MacColl (Evelyn), Patricia French (Phyllis), Dave Maldonado (Tom), Afemo Omilami (David), Alexandra Ficken (Paige), Sharon Blackwood (Gayle), Karen Beverly (Barbara) and Steve Kruth (Ace).

Poms was directed by Zara Hayes (Dian Fossey: Secrets in the Mist), who also co-wrote the screenplay with Shane Atkinson (Penny Dreadful).

Netflix’s official synopsis reads, “After moving to a retirement community, loner Martha befriends a fun-loving neighbor and forms a cheerleading club for young-at-heart seniors.”
