What to know about the career of Diana Ross

Having won a dozen Grammys and sold over 100 million records worldwide, the 79-year-old singer and actress rose to fame as the lead singer of the vocal group The Supremes. The original trio, which included Ross, Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard, became Motown's most successful act during the 1960s and one of the world's best-selling girl groups of all time.

In 1973, Ross made her film debut and was nominated for an Academy Award for her portrayal of female jazz singer Billie Holiday in the 1973 movie "The Lady Sings the Blues." In 1976, Billboard named Ross the greatest female entertainer of the century.

Armed with a catalog that stretches back some 60 years, from her work with The Supremes ("Baby Love," "Where Did Our Love Go?") to her solo material ("I'm Coming Out," "Ain't No Mountain High Enough") Ross will head out on her multi-city "Music Legacy Tour " Sept. 8 in Ontario, Canada before making at stop eight days later in Louisville.

The last time the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer played Louisville was in February 2019.
