Devon Sawa Reveals Macaulay Culkin Was Originally Cast in Eminem's 'Stan' Music Video

The actor opened up about his career in a recent interview with 'Entertainment Tonight'

Eminem's "Stan" music video could have looked a whole lot different.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Devon Sawa — who starred in the music video for the the 2000 track — revealed that he wasn't originally supposed to star in it.

"They went out to Macaulay Culkin first," the Chucky star, 43, said. "I think that they wanted him, and he wasn't available, or didn't want to do it or whatever."

Sawa continued: "Then [Dr.] Dre, who had just seen Final Destination and was a fan, suggested [me]. There happened to be somebody in the casting office that knew somebody who was friends with me, and they called me that way... and it ended up working out pretty good."

The "Final Destination" actor said it's "one of the proudest things I've been a part of."

Sawa also opened up about how there were some challenges along the way, too.

"I'll never forget, they told me on the day that I was going to lip-sync it," he said. "I remember, after the first take I did, Dre running in and being like, 'It was good, but can you try it with some rhythm this time?' And I was like, 'Oh my God.' And that was kind of how the day went."

He still considers the music video "iconic."

"Dr. Dre was there, D12 was there, I think Snoop was wandering around, Cypress Hill. It was just such a wild three days of filmmaking, it was amazing," Sawa added.

“Stan," the hip-hop star's classic, is about an obsessive fan of the same name whose love for Eminem and his music veers into dangerous territory. The song’s title has since become a popular slang term for obsessive fans of specific celebrities.

On Thursday, April 11, Eminem, 51, put out a call out online seeking superfans on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, April 10 for what appears to be for a documentary about his life and career.

He shared on the platform that he was in search of “stans” to help with an as-yet-untitled documentary produced by him and his Shady Films company.

Also included in the post was a link that led to a website with the header “Stans Film" and a questionnaire for fans to fill out.
